Dr. Thompson works with a broad range of sectors including energy (renewables, oil and gas, electricity), environmental & climate change, petrochemicals, utilities, agribusiness, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, municipal and land development. She has experience in all levels of court in Alberta, courts in some African countries, various Canadian tribunals and arbitrations.
Dr. Thompson is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee, and a member of Arbitral Women, among other arbitral institutions. She is the current Chair of the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board, and oversees the administration of the Alberta Public Lands Appeal Board.
Dr. Thompson has taught various law-related courses at the University of Calgary and regularly speaks at law conferences. She publishes in law journals and blogs, and has contributed several law book chapters.
Dispute Resolution Experience and TrainingDr. Thompson is a trained arbitrator with fellowship designation (FCIArb.) from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She has been involved in domestic and international arbitrations as counsel.
Dr. Thompson has sat as an Adjudicator in tribunals where she adjudicates multi-party matters relating to environmental, climate change, water and lands. She conducts matters from start, decides procedural motions, conducts site visits, chairs public hearings, and writes decisions with full reasons.
