Professional Experience

Julie Hopkins is an independent commercial arbitrator based in Calgary and is a member of Western Arbitration Chambers.

Prior to sitting full time as an arbitrator, Julie was counsel with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP where she practiced commercial litigation, arbitration and administrative law for more than 26 years.

She has experience across a variety of industries including electricity generation and transmission, oil and gas, (including oilsands, pipelines and LNG), construction, aviation, trucking, real-estate development, cannabis and health care as well as franchise disputes.

Julie is experienced with multi-party disputes and has been appointed to domestic and international arbitrations. She is on the rosters of a number of arbitral institutions, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (“CIArb”) as is the current Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator’s Canada Branch.
